We’re all ears: our favourite podcasts about translation (and why you should listen to them too!)

Article We’re all ears: our favourite podcasts about translation (and why you should listen to them too!)

Hands up, podcast fans!

Podcasts have been a big deal for a long time now, and show no sign of dipping in popularity anytime soon.

We’re massive podcast buffs, and have all got different interests and favourites - some of which are pretty mainstream, and some of which are pretty out there. But there’s one podcast topic we can all agree on.

You guessed it:

Translation.

Podcasts about all the aspects of our wonderful but not-always-easy-to-navigate industry are one of our favourite ways to keep our finger on the pulse.

They’re the best kind of CPD, because they don’t tie you down to a desk… they set you free!

You can soak them up doing whatever you please. Whilst you’re on a train or plane, in the car, out for a walk or run, sunbathing, doing the washing up… You name it, you can probably listen to a podcast whilst you’re doing it (within reason).

A healthy balance is, of course, super important, because all work (podcasts) and no play (podcasts) make you a dull translator, but if you struggle to squeeze CPD into your working week as well as keeping on top of all the millions of other things you have to achieve, this could be the perfect solution.

But if you’re reading this, you probably already know podcasts are the best. You might even be a bit of an addict, hoping we’ll point you towards a new podcast you can binge.

It’d be our pleasure to do just that.

Other languages are available

The vast majority of these podcasts are in English but, of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t stacks of other options.

We’ve included a few we’re fans of in French and Spanish, and some of the podcasts on this list have certain episodes that aren’t in English, but we’re sure there are all kinds of translation podcasts available in lots of different languages.

If you want something in your native language, or want to double up on CPD by learning about translation whilst sharpening up your listening skills in one of your working languages, pop the relevant keywords into your podcast platform of choice and see what comes up.

Or, ask your translation colleagues or your LinkedIn network if they’ve got any recommendations for you.

And if there’s really nothing available in your language…

Maybe you should be the one to make it.
